Terex CRANES HONORED with 2015 LLEAP AWARD
ZWEIBRÜCKEN, Germany, November 2, 2015 — The Terex® Explorer 5500 all terrain crane has received a Silver Award for Cranes in Lift and Access magazine’s 2015 Leadership in Lifting Equipment and Aerial Platforms (LLEAP) competition. LLEAP awards recognize newly introduced innovative lifting equipment, aerial platforms and related products.
“It’s a great honor to receive a LLEAP award for innovation,” says Rüdiger Zollondz, Director Product Marketing, Terex Cranes. “We are committed to developing the best equipment in the industry as judged by our customers, which means focusing on cost of ownership and return on investment. This prestigious award recognizes the talent and commitment of the hardworking individuals involved in every aspect of development, from concept through sales, that made the Terex Explorer 5500 all terrain crane a reality. Awards like this build team pride.”
LLEAP judges evaluated and honored innovative products that were introduced to the industry between June 1, 2014 through May 31, 2015. Entries were judged on four criteria: Innovation; Economic value or cost savings to the owner or user; Improved ease of operation, efficiency, or productivity for the owner or user; and Improved safety for the owner, user or site personnel. The judging panel included industry experts involved in the operation, rental, sales and servicing of lifting equipment and access platforms.
Introduced in November 2014, the Explorer 5500, 140 USt capacity class all-terrain crane, features a 197 ft main boom and 36, 68, and 108 ft offsettable extensions for a maximum system length of 284 ft. This 5-axle crane (39.8 ft carrier length, 46.9 ft length, 9 ft width) is more compact than any other in its capacity class and can be adapted to fulfill the road regulations in target markets thanks to various configuration options. The Explorer 5500 is engineered with the innovative Terex single-motor concept, a powerful and economical 500 HP unit meeting emission standards Euromot 4 and Tier 4F.
The Explorer 5500 can be equipped with IC-1 Plus, the new capacity calculating system which calculates lifting capacities for every position of the boom subject to the slewing angle of the superstructure in real time. This enables lifting with asymmetric outrigger setup, allowing the crane to work in confined spaces without losing lifting capacity. The system also features an enhanced visualization to provide the crane operator with additional information on capacity in relation to boom position and a colored visualization of the work area capacity for safe operation.
LLEAP Award winners will be recognized in the November-December 2015 issue of Lift and Access magazine.
