leggat Plant takes delivery of terex® explorer 5500
all terrain crane
ZWEIBRÜCKEN, April 8th, 2015 – Glasgow-based Leggat Plant has taken delivery of a Terex® Explorer 5500 all terrain crane - the first to arrive in the UK. Part of an ongoing investment program, it brings to seven the number of Terex cranes in the Leggat Plant fleet.
In the 130 t capacity class with a main boom length of 60 m and a maximum system length of 86.5 m, it has been chosen for its compact size and versatility, allowing it to operate effectively in space-restricted areas.
Eddy Donaghy, owner of Leggat Plant, comments: “Our last Terex crane, a Challenger 3160, delivered in September 2013, has proved so successful and enjoyed such a high utilisation rate, that we had no hesitation in choosing this latest model from Terex.”
“A more than competent performer delivering a high degree of manoeuvrability, with duties unmatched by other machines, it promises to be an invaluable addition to the fleet in this fast growing sector of the market,” he explains and adds: “The relationship between Terex and Leggat is a long standing one which has stood the test of time. Both the product and the service have always been first class.”
Founded over 140 years ago, Leggat Plant is the longest established crane hire company in Scotland. It will use the Explorer for a variety of applications ranging from housing and bridges to demolition and machinery installations.
About the Terex® Explorer 5500 all terrain crane:
The 5-axle, 130 tonne (140 US ton) capacity class Explorer 5500 all terrain crane with its 60 m (197.0 ft) main boom is designed to combine power and roadability. Automatic rigging for the 39.8 t (43.9 US t) counterweight puts the crane quickly ready to work.
A major feature of the Explorer 5500 crane is the single engine concept enhancing performance for both road travel and lifting and reduces operational cost through low fuel consumption and reduced maintenance. Powered by a Scania 368 kw/500 hp engine the Explorer 5500 complies with Euromot IV/Tier 4F directives or alternatively with Euromot IIIa/Tier 3 (331 kw/450 hp). Fuel efficiency is provided using stop/start technology for the upper cabin and engine remapping depending on what type of operation is being performed, lifting or travelling.
The new asymmetric outrigger positioning system allows to work in a higher capacity range with less counterweight, thus increasing its versatility and reducing transportation cost.
The latest Terex IC-1 touch screen control system, along with radio remote control, makes rigging and on-site operation safe and efficient. Designed to operate globally, the system includes 14 pre-programmed languages. Also new is the 2.5 m (8.2 ft) walk-through carrier cabin with air conditioning, which is ergonomically designed to enhance the operator’s day-to-day experience.
