Deep South Crane & Rigging PUrchases two Terex® crawler cranes

delivery includes the highest capacity Series production crawler

baton rouge, la., June 03, 2014 – As North American market conditions continue to improve, Deep South Crane & Rigging of Baton Rouge, La., sees this as the right time to add two Terex lattice boom crawler crane models to its impressive fleet of more than 200 pieces of lifting equipment. The new crane acquisitions include the versatile 440-ton (400 tonne) capacity class, Terex CC 2400-1, and the world’s most popular super-heavy crawler crane, the 1,760-ton (1,600-tonne) Terex CC 8800-1.

“Deep South has multiple CC 2400-1 models in its fleet due to this model’s durability, flexibility and reliability,” says Jim Strobush, regional sales manager for Terex Cranes, “and the company sees some new market opportunities on the horizon that will require the high lift capacities of the CC 8800-1 crane.”

A 1,760-ton (1,600-tonne) capacity class crane, the CC 8800-1 delivers the highest lifting capacities in Deep South’s expansive crawler crane fleet. While most other crawler crane designs in the over 1,100-ton (1,000-tonne) capacity class are one-off, specially produced models, the CC 8800-1 crawler is a series production crane. Setting the super heavy lift class industry standard, it offers easy set-up and transport for its size. The crane’s design allows for components to be quickly disassembled into weights of less than 49 tons (45 tonnes) for easier, faster and cheaper transport. Since it is a standard production model, crane assembly is much easier and faster once on site.

“Now owning 10 crawler cranes over 600 tons, Deep South believes the CC 8800-1 will be a valuable addition to its growing fleet of high-capacity crawler cranes," said Jeremy Landry, project manager for Deep South. “The CC 8800’s time-proven design and ease of transportation, together with Deep South's experienced team, will improve our ability to provide our customers with efficient lifting solutions."

Assisting the CC 8800-1 crane with lifting projects at petrochemical sites and on infrastructure projects, Deep South’s new CC 2400-1 crawler crane is an all-around workhorse, offering high lift capacities in the 440-ton (400-tonne) class. Its compact design offers transport ease, while a small footprint helps improve maneuverability at tight project sites. The crane’s variable superlift system radius boosts lift capacities while minimizing space requirements and counterweight transport, while its jib configurations offer a wide range of lift options to increase versatility.

About the Terex CC 8800-1 Lattice Boom Crawler Crane

The Terex CC 8800-1 is one of the most powerful series-produced mobile cranes in the world. Offering a maximum lifting capacity of 1,760 tons (1,600 tonnes) and a maximum load moment of 173,600 ft-kips (24,002 mt), its superlift system radius ranges between 62 and 98 ft (19 and 30 m). With an SWSL luffing fly jib boom configuration, the crane can reach a maximum boom length of 708 ft (216 m). With no component wider than 11.5 ft (3.5 m), the crane is designed for worldwide transportation, and virtually all of the components have a shipping weight of less than 44 tons (40 tonnes).

In addition to the advantages of its working range limiting function and a ground pressure display, the CC 8800-1 lattice boom crawler crane’s IC-1 control system also provides extensive auto-diagnostic functions, to simplify on-site troubleshooting and increase uptime. Two identical independent drive units, as well as a second independent control system also further increase uptime on the job site. As a result, the CC 8800-1 crawler crane can continue its work even if one of its engines or control systems fails (e.g., in the case of a lightning strike).

The TWIN add-on kit for the successful 1763-ton (1600-tonne) CC 8800-1 crawler crane increases its range of operation to a lifting capacity of 3,527 tons (3,200 tonnes). For its owners, this opens up the widest possible range of deployment options at a reduced cost of ownership.

The name TWIN refers to the impressive double boom and the versatility of the CC 8800-1 modules, which are complemented by a small number of additional components. The Terex CC 8800-1 TWIN lattice boom crawler crane retains the same logistical characteristics and design for worldwide transport as seen in the Terex CC8800-1 crane. Operating as a pick-and-carry crawler crane with 3,527-ton (3200-tonne) lifting capacity and a maximum load moment of 319,000 ft-kips (43,900 mt), the TWIN crawler crane represents a considerable saving of both time and space requirements in the erection of large industrial facilities when compared with ring lift cranes and jacking towers.

About the Terex CC 2400-1 Lattice Boom Crawler Crane

The Terex CC 2400-1 lattice boom crawler crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 440 tons (400 tonnes) and a maximum load moment of 37,380 ft-kips (5,168 mt). Equipped with main boom, luffing jib and superlift system, the CC 2400-1 is one of the most powerful cranes in its class. With additional wind turbine erection equipment like the light fixed jib LF2 in 39.4-, 78.7- or 118.1-ft (12-, 24- or 36-m) combinations with two reinforced boom sections, the crane scopes with the majority of 1.5 to 2 MW wind turbines at up to 426.5-ft (130-m) tower heights. For petrochemical and infrastructure applications, the crane’s variable superlift system offers easy change of superlift radius. This gives customers the opportunity to reduce counterweight transport costs. The superlift system can be combined with a telescoping stinger system or a self-propelled counterweight wagon.
