HEß AUTOKRAN Picks up FOURTH TEREX® AC 80-2 ALL TERRAIN CRANE
ZWEIBRÜCKEN, February 21st, 2014 – The people at Leinata-Gothal-based Heß Autokran GmbH are more than just happy with the Terex® AC 80-2 all terrain crane. In fact, they are so pleased that in November of 2013, Terex Sales Manager Torsten Hanke handed over the fourth crane of this model to Heß Autokran owner Ottfried Heß. “The AC 80-2 continues to be the best crane we’ve ever had in this crane class,” says Heß when explaining why he decided on this specific model. He is not only extremely pleased with the crane’s reliability, but also with its telescoping system, which features a fully hydraulic boom that can be retracted and extended under load.
There is another extraordinary characteristic behind the Terex AC 80-2 crane that the people at Heß Autokran GmbH value. The crane can move at work sites with the boom set down all the way forward even when the machine is already set up with its full counterweight. The reason for this is that the crane is balanced in such a way that the boom does not have to be swung backwards to compensate for the heavy counterweight when the machine is moving. “This makes the AC 80-2 optimally maneuverable in tight spaces even when configured with its maximum counterweight,” explains Ottfried Heß.
In addition to the four AC 80-2 cranes, there are other Terex cranes in Heß Autokran’s fleet. This is no surprise given the long standing relationship Terex Cranes has had with Heß Autokran. In fact, Terex Sales Manager Torsten Hanke started working at Terex Cranes
at the same time Ottfried Heß founded his company. “We’ve known each other practically from the beginning, and throughout the years we’ve developed a strong relationship that lets us trust each other no matter what. On top of this, I know I can always rely one-hundred-percent on the service provided by Terex – another good reason why I buy my cranes here,” explains Ottfried Heß while picking up his latest acquisition. His 15-year-old daughter Annika, who will one day take over the company, was also there to pick up the crane. During a tour of the Zweibrücken and Wallerscheid plants, she was able to learn how the Terex cranes are built. “Who knows? Maybe Annika will be back one day to pick up her own Terex crane as the boss running the family business.” Added Heß.
About the AC 80-2 all terrain crane
With a length of 12.11 meters, the Terex® AC 80-2 all terrain crane is one of the shortest four-axle cranes in the 80-tonne capacity class with a maximum load moment of 255 mt. Under 10 meters in length, it offers the shortest carrier in its class. A powerful 428-metric-hp engine, together with a convenient 6-speed automatic transmission gives the crane outstanding performance. An independent rear-axle steering system enhances the unit’s high level of maneuverability. Short telescoping times and the ability to telescope large loads (a result of its fully hydraulic boom system) make a compelling argument to its efficiency and productivity when this all terrain crane is at work in real-life operations. In addition, the crane can travel on public roads—in full compliance with the 12-tonne axle load limit —while carrying 6.8-tonne counterweight and 17-meter main boom extension. The telescopic main boom’s length ranges from 10.9 to 50 meters. Additional options include main boom extensions available with a single-section or double-section jib (with a length of 9.2 meters and 17.6 meters respectively), as well as a 1.20-meter-long assembly jib.
