EISELE AG RECEIVES TWO TEREX® AC 140 COMPACT ALL TERRAIN CRANES

AND A TEREX® CHALLENGER 3180 ALL TERRAIN CRANE

ZWEIBRÜCKEN, December 17th, 2013 – Maintal-based crane service provider Eisele AG took delivery of two Terex® AC 140 Compact and one Challenger 3180 all terrain cranes in Zweibrücken in November. On the reasons why Eisele AG chose these cranes, Rocco Schimmel, Engineer consultant at Eisele, commented: “The AC 140 is the most compact 5-axle crane out there. This comes in real handy when you have precious little space available at your job site. This is why we will be using these two cranes mostly for erecting tower cranes and carrying out demolition and industrial assembly work.”

Regarding the Terex Challenger 3180 all terrain crane, Schimmel said, “In this case, the decisive factor in the company’s purchase decision was the combination of a 50-meter-long main boom with a compact three-axle chassis. This makes the Challenger the perfect option for lighter assembly projects relatively close to our location. It’s also the perfect substitute for a larger 80-tonne crane whenever we have projects for which we just need the extra boom length, and not the actual extra lifting capacity.”

About The Terex® AC 140 Compact all terrain crane

Thanks to its compact design, the 5-axle Terex® AC 140 Compact all terrain crane covers a greater range of applications than any other crane in the 140-tonne lifting capacity category. Its carrier length of 11.17 meters and carrier width of 2.75 meters would typically be found in 5-axle cranes with lifting capacities of 100 to 120 tonnes instead. In other words, the Terex AC 140 Compact crane is considerably more compact than other cranes with lifting capacities of 130 to 160 tonnes.

In addition, the AC 140 Compact crane stands out because of its high cost-effectiveness: When used for projects involving heavy loads, the crane requires only one additional vehicle, as it is able to carry an 8.3-tonne counterweight by itself while still operating within a 12-tonne axle load limit (corresponding to a vehicle weight of 60 tonnes). This means that only 34.7 additional tonnes, which can be easily transported by a single additional vehicle, are required in order to use the crane’s maximum counterweight capacity. This makes the unit’s operating costs significantly lower than those for other machines in the 160-tonne lifting capacity category, as these require at least two additional transport vehicles.

With a 60-meter main boom and a main boom extension that can range from 9.10 to 33 meters, the AC 140 Compact crane features a maximum system length of 93 meters. The machine can be comfortably and easily operated thanks to its convenient IC-1 crane control system, which comes with a touchscreen.

The Terex® Challenger 3180 all terrain crane

With a 50-meter (164-ft) main boom combined with a 16-meter (52.5-ft) extension, the Terex® Challenger 3180 all terrain crane provides the longest system length in the 60-tonne (66.1 US-t) capacity class. The crane includes optional all-wheel steering with a 6x6x6 drivetrain configuration and 495/95R25 tires.

Moreover, when set up with its maximum level of equipment with the main boom, an additional jib, and maximum counterweight of 12.1 tonnes, the Challenger 3180 crane is the most powerful system in the 60-tonne lifting capacity category, as can be evidenced by its maximum lifting capacity of 37.9 tonnes at a radius of 4 meters. Even when set up with this configuration, the crane can be operated by one single person and travel on roads in countries with a 15-tonne axle load limit.
