TEREX® CHALLENGER LIFTS PRODUCTIVITY TO NEW HEIGHTS
New South Wales, Australia, August, 2013 - The addition of a 55t capacity class Terex® Challenger 3160 all terrain crane to its equipment line has meant a significant boost in productivity for Wilson Lift Crane Hire Australia. Based in regional NSW, Wilson Lift now has three Terex cranes in their lifting fleet, providing them with a broad lifting capacity for a wide range of assignments.
“We lift roof trusses, wall frames for houses, swimming pools, machinery, even boats. We also do a lot of manufacturing work, such as lifting machinery into processing plants,” says Danny Wilson, owner of Wilson Lift.
“We started with the Terex AC 35 crane back in 2004, which is a great crane. It can set up anywhere and has wonderful manoeuvrability. Then we added the Terex 15t Pick & Carry truck crane for smaller jobs. Now we’ve recently added the Terex Challenger all terrain crane to the line.”
With a 50 metre single cylinder telescoping system, the Challenger provides the world’s longest telescopic boom on a 3-axle all terrain crane. It has a width of just 2.55m and when fully equipped is roadable within a 12t axle load.
“The reason we went for the Challenger was primarily for the boom length. A lot of what we do is on uphill sites, so you really need the boom height. Not needing a support truck is also a big plus. And the Challenger is a much better option for us than a truck crane because of its all terrain capability,” said Wilson.
Boasting a powerful engine and all wheel steer, the Challenger all terrain crane handles inclines with ease and has a minimum turning radius of just 3,2 meters as measured on the inside wheels. “I like to buy brand new cranes, rather than used ones. People like to see quality equipment turn up to a job, and we get a lot of repeat business because people know that we have good gear,” Wilson added.
Bringing height, manoeuvrability and flexibility, the Terex Challenger has been the ideal addition to the Wilson Lift equipment line.
“The Challenger has been a great purchase. It’s given us a lot more capacity to do different jobs, as well as getting the jobs done faster,” Danny said.

About the Terex® Challenger 3160 all terrain crane
The powerful and compact Terex® Challenger 3160 all terrain crane is currently the only three-axle crane in the 55-tonne capacity class designed with one-person operation in mind. With a 50-m single-cylinder telescopic boom and a maximum lifting capacity of 35.6 tonnes when working with a reach of four meters, the Terex Challenger 3160 all terrain crane can be operated independently by a single person while remaining under an axle load limit of 12 tonnes. For countries with a maximum axle load limit of 10 tonnes, the crane can set down its own counterweight, keeping the unit’s total service weight under 30 tonnes.
