FOCUSING ON THE FUTURE

BKV INVESTS IN TWO TEREX® CHALLENGER 3160 ALL TERRAIN CRANES

Barneveld, August 17th, 2012 – Established by Chris Deij in 1969, family-owned Barneveld Crane Rental Ltd. (BKV) has successfully built a strong reputation for providing highly specialized solutions in the lifting, transport and crane rental sector in the Netherlands.

Currently managed by Chris Deij’s sons, Daan (Director), Dick, (Lifting Specialist), Henry (Planning) and Albert (Technical Services), the company recently bought its first Terex crane, a Challenger 3160, closely followed by the purchase of a second unit.

Challenger 3160 – a profitable crane “in a class of its own”

Technical specialist Albert maintains a young, reliable crane fleet and invests in today’s technology to adapt to market challenges - a key factor in securing the company’s future success.

Focused on providing innovative, cost-efficient solutions for highly technical and challenging projects, “The Terex Challenger is in a class of its own. It’s a great replacement for larger cranes in many cases, so we’re already getting profitable returns on our investment,” says Albert. “Rental is an important aspect of our business and our Challenger 3160 rental rates are very good. Fuel consumption is also lower than similar capacity cranes by other brands -which makes it more economical to operate.”

From restricted urban job sites to wind turbine repairs and maintenance

According to Henry, who is in charge of the company’s jobsite planning, in addition to combining cost-efficiencies with versatile lifting capabilities, there are several other reasons why the Challenger 3160 is an asset for BKV’s business. “Because of its 50m long boom, we can even use our Challengers for maintenance on smaller scale wind turbines,” he notes. “Compact size, lifting capabilities and long boom means we have access to jobs that were not possible before,” he adds, referring to a recent tree lift in a neighboring town. “Due to increasing road travel restrictions, its ability to travel within 12-tonne axle load limitations is another benefit that counts a lot for us already.”

In terms of operating comfort and lifting performance, Challenger 3160 driver and operator Gerwin Tenhoven has found BKV’s two new Terex cranes easy to operate. “I like the long boom, which means I don’t have to carry and set-up a jib. This saves a lot of time and makes my job easier,” says Gerwin. “The joystick slew brake feature is very good. The cab design is great. I like my new Challenger.”

About the Terex Challenger 3160 all terrain crane

The powerful and compact Terex Challenger 3160 is currently the only three-axle crane with a 55-tonne lifting capacity designed with one-person operation in mind. With a 50-m single-cylinder telescopic boom and a maximum lifting capacity of 35.6 tonnes when working with a reach of four meters, the Terex Challenger 3160 can be operated independently by a single person while remaining under an axle load limit of 12 tonnes (for countries with a maximum axle load limit of 10 tonnes, the crane can set down its own counterweight, keeping the unit’s total service weight under 30 tonnes).

About Barneveld Crane Rental Ltd.

It was in 1969, at the height of the steel construction boom, that Chris Deij first set up in the crane business. Based on a crane of his own design, built at his blacksmiths workshop at the family home, the company steadily evolved to employ 48 members of staff for a fleet of 24 cranes offering lifting capacities from 40 to 750 tonnes. Today, Chris Deij’s sons Daan (Director), Henry (jobsite planning), Albert (technical support) and Dick (lifting specialist) manage the family business that prides itself in providing the expert advice, specialist planning skills and applications solutions required to handle almost any lifting requirements. The company is notably specialized in challenging, heavy lifting and transport. More information about BKV can be found at www.bkv.nl
