CRANE HANDOVER: Terex® Challenger 3160 solidifies Bruns gmbh’s competitive advantage

ZWEIBRÜCKEN, June 21st, 2012 – A compact design, a long boom, and the ability to travel on public roads without the need for additional ballast transport vehicles were such compelling selling points that Frank Bruns, general manager of Hannover-based J. Bruns GmbH & Co. KG, recently decided to acquire a Terex® Challenger 3160. The decision quickly proved to be the right one: When picking up the crane together with operator Heiko Schneider in March 2012 at the Terex Zweibrücken plant, they were able to benefit from one of the unit’s advantages right away. Schneider was able to take the Challenger to Bruns’ Hannover location alone and without an escort vehicle, even though the unit was set up with a complete configuration that would enable it to start working anywhere right away. “The Challenger 3160 is an extremely powerful machine with an unbelievable level of flexibility and the ability to handle many types of lifts. It spares us from having to waste time applying for one-time permits and gives us an unparalleled level of scheduling flexibility thanks to the fact that we can get a long-term permit for it. This, in turn, provides us with decisive competitive advantages, especially since we’re the first crane service provider in our region to have such a machine,” explains Frank Bruns. And the decision is already paying off: Only a few days after it was picked up from the factory, the Challenger 3160 was already scheduled to take on its first assignment in Hildesheim.

The Terex® Challenger 3160

The powerful and compact Terex Challenger® 3160 is currently the only three-axle crane with a 55-tonne lifting capacity designed with one-person operation in mind. With a 50-m single-cylinder telescopic boom and a maximum lifting capacity of 35.6 tonnes when working with a reach of four meters, the Terex Challenger 3160 can be operated independently by a single person while remaining under an axle load limit of 12 tonnes (for countries with a maximum axle load limit of 10 tonnes, the crane can set down its own counterweight, keeping the unit’s total service weight under 30 tonnes).
