Terex Cranes strengthens its presence in Latin America

The company extends its commitment to the Latin American market and executes a strategy in local manufacturing and strengthened sales, service and replacement part support

São Paulo, Brazil, June 13, 2012 – Continuing its commitment to Latin America, Terex Cranes is making major moves to strengthen its presence in the region through dedicated sales support, unparalleled service and replacement part support, and local manufacturing. "Our strengthened structure of the Crane segment in the region will help us better deliver our customer responsiveness value proposition in all aspects of our customer’s business – improved availability of products, outstanding parts and service support, and better access to improved financing," said Jacob Thomas, President of Terex Latin America.

Selected to be produced at the Terex plant in Cachoeirinha, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, the RT555 Progress rough-terrain crane will meet the needs of the local market, which is currently booming. Assembled in Brazil with the same quality as the model produced in Waverly, Iowa, USA, the RT555 Progress has a proven efficient design and its versatility and best in class features are ideal for the market's needs.

The development project to assemble the crane in Brazil was carried out in close partnership between the Terex teams at Cachoeirinha and Waverly. With the training of the staff and installation of the necessary manufacturing infrastructure, the local plant site has become self-sufficient in new crane assembly. The new RT555 Progress crane is being introduced to the market during the M&T Expo 2012 trade show.

With the first phase of the project now executed, the parts for the local assembly of the RT555 Progress are being brought in as “Complete Knock Down” (CKD) kits, which allows for quick assembly and availability to customers. During the second phase of the project, already underway, Terex Cranes will complete the accreditation process for component supply by local companies. "The speed and success with which this project has been executed is largely due to the established infrastructure and the collaborative, talented team members in Waverly and Cachoeirinha. This exemplifies the strength that Terex has as a global company with a strong global footprint," said Dan Slater, General Manager of Terex Cranes North America.

Terex Cranes' after-sales and technical services will leverage Demag Cranes AG's world-class service network. Thirty of Demag's best service technicians were selected in Brazil and trained to provide support for Terex crane models. When training is complete, all Brazilian states will be covered and the ability to offer fast, efficient services will be greatly expanded. "Sales and Services go together, and both have been strengthened substantially, and will be continuously enhanced to serve our customers," says Ivens Encarnacao, General Manager of Terex Cranes in Latin America.

In order to support Terex's growth both in the cranes market and in the other segments, a new parts warehouse has been installed in Sao Paulo. A world-class Inventory Management System is being deployed to deliver efficient and quick replacement part availability to customers. The new parts warehouse has over 20,000 items in stock.
