BERLIN-BASED CRANE RENTAL COMPANY Karl Altendorff EXPANDS ITS RANGE OF SERVICES WITH A Terex® AC 100/4L
ZWEIBRÜCKEN, May 31st, 2012 – Any crane service provider operating in a large city like Berlin and its surroundings needs its machines to meet very specific and particular needs: “Most of all, projects in the city require cranes that feature not only large lifting capacities, but also compact dimensions and long system lengths at the same time so that they can travel through constrained access roads and reach tight construction sites without a problem,” explains Burkhard Fromm, owner of Berlin-based transportation and crane service provider Karl Altendorff. In fact, this is precisely why the entrepreneur decided to make a Terex® AC 100/4L his latest acquisition, after which he personally picked up the unit at the Terex Cranes Zweibrücken facility in April together with his son Fabian and crane operator Ralf Stibbe.
Fromm saw a number of good reasons why a Terex AC 100/4L would be the best possible choice: On one hand, the four-axle all-terrain crane is extremely maneuverable thanks to its overall width of 2.55 meters, 8 x 6 x 8 drive train configuration, and narrow 14.00 tires, even when working at sites with restricted space conditions. On the other hand, the Terex crane does not exceed an axle load limit of 12 tonnes, which allows it to travel at any time within Berlin without the need for special permits. “This not only results in greater flexibility, but also in greater cost-effectiveness, since we have a blanket permit for this machine,” clarifies Fromm, who was also sold on the crane’s two-engine design. This design makes it possible to achieve particularly fuel-efficient levels of operation, therefore increasing the unit’s cost-effectiveness even further.
Other advantages from Fromm’s perspective: Thanks to its 59.4 meter-long telescopic boom, the Terex AC 100/4L can handle assignments that would normally be reserved for five-axle cranes with a lifting capacity of 130 tonnes. In addition, the unit’s optional jib and connector have made it possible to expand the Terex AC 100/4L’s potential range of applications, so that his company is now able to take care of tasks that previously had to be assigned to third parties.
It is also worth mentioning that Fromm’s high expectations for his new machine have already been met: The Terex AC 100/4L proved its worth at the end of April 2012 while lifting a series of roof beams in an equestrian facility.
About the Terex® AC 100/4L
The compact Terex AC 100/4L all terrain crane is the only crane in the 100 tonnes capacity class to feature a standard truck width of 2.55 meters, even when equipped with large 445/95R25 tires. With a telescopic main boom of 59.4 meters and the 10-meter section of its 19-meter-long double folding jib, the crane also features one of the longest system lengths (69.5 meters) that can travel on four axles while complying with a 12-tonne axle load limit. Meanwhile, the crane reaches its maximum system length of 81.7 meters together with an extension system characterized by a high level of versatility: The 19-meter-long double folding jib can be mounted directly on the telescopic boom or on an additional 8-meter extension installed between the telescopic boom and the double folding jib, enabling fast setup times at construction sites.
It is possible to offset either the 19-meter double folding jib on the extension or the entire 27 meters (the 19-meter double jib plus the 8-meter extension) on the telescopic boom. This makes it possible to either work with a large working radius or overcome projecting edges of up to 63 meters.
A powerful 335-kW (445 hp) engine is responsible for the AC 100/4L's cost-effective operation, exceptional road-traveling performance, and outstanding fuel economy.
