S & B SCHWERTRANS GMBH RECEIVES

TEREX® CHALLENGER 3160

ZWEIBRÜCKEN, March 1st, 2012 – Uwe Steinkamp, Gifhorn-based S & B Schwertrans GmbH’s general manager, traveled to Zweibrücken in order to personally pick up his company’s newest acquisition from Terex Cranes – a Terex Challenger 3160 all-terrain crane. “This is actually the sixth Terex crane we’ve gotten for our fleet,” comments Steinkamp, whose years of experience with Terex products have led him to value their reliability and powerful performance.

The entrepreneur was sold on the Challenger’s many advantages, such as its ease of operation and extraordinary performance. Also, he did not fail to notice that the unit’s compact design and 50-meter telescopic boom would make it the ideal machine for the type of assignments normally handled by S & B Schwertrans GmbH. Indeed, the last few years have seen the company firmly establish itself as a leading lift provider in the region where indoor projects are concerned. With its services in high demand, it was only logical to have the Challenger 3160 come with a “Runner” (a special assembly jib) straight from the factory, enabling the crane to lift loads merely inches away from ceilings if necessary.

The crane’s weight characteristics scored additional points with the North German company’s decision-makers, as an axle load of less than 12 tonnes allowed the unit to travel to any site and begin work immediately without the need of an escort vehicle. On top of this, Uwe Steinkamp considers the Challenger to be a trailblazer in terms of environmental friendliness: “The Challenger 3160 is our first crane to comply with the requirements set forth in the Euromot Stage IIIb set of international emission regulations, and when you really want to do something for the environment, you have to make sure you’re working with the latest technology.”

The Challenger 3160 is about to tackle its first assignment for the company at a factory owned by one of the world’s largest automakers. This indoor assembly project will allow the Challenger to prove its worth and make a strong first impression – an opinion shared by the people at S & B.

The Terex® Challenger 3160

The powerful and compact Terex Challenger 3160 is currently the only three-axle crane with a 55-tonne lifting capacity designed with one-person operation in mind. With a 50-m single-cylinder telescopic boom and a maximum lifting capacity of 35.6 tonnes when working with a reach of four meters, the Terex Challenger 3160 can be operated independently by a single person while remaining under an axle load limit of 12 tonnes (for countries with a maximum axle load limit of 10 tonnes, the crane can set down its own counterweight, keeping the unit’s total service weight under 30 tonnes).
