AUTAA LEVAGE OPERATES Terex® AC 350 IN CHALLENGING high LIFT, FRANCE

Paris, France, February 15th, 2012 – A Terex® AC 350 all terrain crane has recently been operated by Autaa Levage to remove a 3.6-tonne phone connection shelter from the roof of a 90-meter high building, on the outskirts of Paris.

Specialized in heavy, high lifting projects with limited access, Autaa’s experienced team operates an extensive fleet of aerial platforms and 45 cranes offering capacities from 25 to 400 tonnes from five locations across France.

The project faced some unique challenges, including traffic management restrictions. Also, high winds, up to 7 m/s, and the structure of the building made the already challenging lift more difficult.

As Lionel Autaa, Director, Autaa Levage explains, “Despite our experience in a wide variety of demanding tasks, this job was particularly challenging due to a combination of height, weight and the limitations of a busy, tree-lined by-pass and offices in the foreground of the building.”

To remove the 3.6 t shelter from the roof, the crane had to be rigged at an under hook height of 114.15 meters to clear the 90-meter rooftop. The configuration enabled the crane to reach straight up with the required precision to lift the shelter and other elements to the ground smoothly and rapidly. The job was safely completed within two days.

Driven-in from the company’s Paris depot in the early morning, the Terex AC 350 was set-up with a luffing jib and sideways superlift configuration with 62-tonne counterweight using a 51.90-meter main boom and 61-meter extension at a radius of 30 meters. The crane lived up to its reputation of being the most compact of its class, as this fact was crucial for the crane to navigate the busy streets of Paris. Additionally, the time saving rigging features played an important role in reducing the set up time.

Our AC 350 has proved to be a great benefit to our business. Once again, its powerful lifting capacity, compact dimensions and flexibility proved to be an ideal match to the constraints of our jobsite environment,” says Lionel.

About the Terex® AC 350

With a total length of just 16.7 (54.8 ft) meters, the AC 350 is the smallest and most compact 6-axle mobile crane in the 350-tonne (386 US ton) capacity class. Well-matched to an extraordinarily wide range of applications, it can be used as an alternative to medium and large 5-axle mobile cranes in the under 220-tonnes (242 US tons) capacity class with partial counterweight. In the 200 to 350-tonne range (220 – 386 US tons), it is currently by far the most powerful crane in its class as well as in terms of its main boom and different extensions. It can even perform tasks usually carried out by much larger 400-tonne (440 US ton) capacity class cranes. As an example, the AC 350’s extraordinary lifting capacity reaches the performance figures of a 400-tonne (440 US ton) class mobile crane with a telescoped boom length of approximately 56 meters (183.7 feet), and an impressive maximum system length of 126.4 meters (414.7 feet).

A compact chassis and speed-dependent rear axle steering enable the crane to work within remarkably small turning radii. Furthermore, as the only 350-tonne (386 US ton) capacity class machine with a front overhang of under two meters (6.6 feet), the Terex AC 350 can be operated without additional escort in a number of different countries.

Optional attachments can be loaded onto conventional trucks within a width of 2.55 m (8.4 feet).
