GREAT OPEN HOUSE DAY WITH TEREX CRANES IN SWEDEN

Zweibruecken, 2nd November 2011 – Expecting 140 visitors from Sweden and the rest of Scandinavia, the Terex Cranes team was feeling confident about the prospects of its Open House Event held at its facility on September 14th in Helsingborg, Sweden.

The cranes displayed looked great as they stood proudly shining in the yard; namely the Terex® CBR 32 plus tower crane, Terex® RC 45 rough terrain crane and new Terex® Challenger 3160 all-terrain crane. The entire team was all set and looking forward to the opportunity of spending time with its guests in a relaxed atmosphere. Unfortunately, the Swedish weather did not cooperate. On the morning of the event, blackened skies, gale-force winds and pouring rain greeted everyone. “Quite honestly, the weather couldn’t have been worse, and it was difficult to imagine customers showing up in conditions like that,” says Carsten von der Geest, Managing Director, Terex Cranes, Helsingborg.

Regardless of the weather, the Terex team took time to show guests around their new facility and workshop and the event gave customers a chance to discover the new Challenger 3160 all-terrain crane. As the morning moved on, people began to arrive, including teams from Havator, Kranexpressen AS, Bärarelaget, Ramirent and Flens Byggmaskiner, some of Terex Cranes’ major customers from Sweden.

The Terex Challenger 3160 had many admirers, and its 50-meter boom and 35.6-tonne lifting capacity on 4m radius were seen as strong benefits. Even though not displayed at the event, there was great interest in the Terex Challenger 3180 model. “Although this particular version is not self-contained within local 12-tonne axle load limits, its longer 9 to 16-meter folding jib extension, second hoist and higher 60-tonne capacity class brings additional value to the customer,” says Carsten.

Even though the star of the show was the Challenger, the Terex CBR 32plus and the RC 45 also received strong attention.

Although the morning was gloomy, the weather gradually cleared to reveal blue sky, and by evening, the sun was shining. “We were delighted with the participation, which ended up by far higher than expected,” says Carsten. “Our customers responded really well to our products in what turned out to be a great day for all of us and gave real meaning to the saying ‘Every cloud has a silver lining,’ or at least for us here in Sweden.”

About the Terex® Challenger 3160

As compact as it is powerful, the new Terex® Challenger 3160 is the only 3-axle, 55-tonne capacity class machine currently available that is designed for one-man operation. Offering a maximum lifting capacity of 35.6-tonnes at 4-meter radius, and equipped with a 50-metre, single cylinder telescopic boom, the new Terex® Challenger 3160 provides self-contained, one-man operation within 12-tonne axle-load limitations. In countries where axle load limits are 10-tonnes, the crane can de-rig its own counterweight to reduce weight to less than 30 tonnes.

About the Terex® Challenger 3180

With a 50 m main boom combined with a 16 m extension, the Terex Challenger 3180 provides the longest system length in the 60-t all terrain capacity class. This includes (optional) all-wheel steering with drive chain 6x6x6 and 495/95R25 tires.

Fully equipped, including its maximum 12.1-t counterweight, the Challenger 3180 also provides the strongest system in the 60-t capacity class, with maximum lifting capacity of 37.9 t at 4 m radius. In this configuration it is still roadable and designed for one-man-operation in countries with 15-t axle-load limitations.
