TEREX CRANES COLLABORATES WITH CECE TO ENHANCE
IDENTIFICATION OF NON-COMPLIANT EQUIPMENT IN EUROPE
Zweibruecken, September 6th, 2011 – The import, sale and use of non-compliant construction machinery into the E.U. is a significant issue for the European construction equipment industry and its customers. It is a source of unfair competition, compromises safety, and undermines the investments in research and development of bona fide manufacturers. To address this, Terex Cranes was pleased to contribute to the first guide dedicated to the identification of non-compliant tower cranes, in collaboration with the Committee for European Construction Equipment (CECE), and the European Materials Handling Industry.
The guide, which was published in June, is meant to serve as an easy to use reference for crane buyers and users, as well as regulatory authorities. It provides essential criteria that can be checked without in-depth knowledge and technical information to help distinguish between compliant and non-compliant tower cranes according to current E.U. legislation and valid safety and environmental requirements. Items covered by the guide include crane markings, documents, component combinations, noise emissions, additional safety equipment, warnings/labels and user instructions. Each separate item is explained in straightforward terms and illustrated by diagrams and photos to help users identify the difference between compliant and non-compliant cranes. Terex Cranes was among the manufacturers who contributed the experience and expert knowledge of its tower crane specialists to the development of the guide.
“The presence of non-compliant machines in the E.U. is a real issue. Thanks to the fruitful cooperation established within the CECE Tower Cranes section, which gathers today’s leading manufacturers, this new guide is the first reliable reference currently available. We recommend its use to the national customs and market surveillance authorities and by anyone in the process of buying or using a tower crane,” says Mr Ralf Wezel, Secretary General of CECE.
The C.E.C.E. Machine Compliancy Guide can be found on the Terex Cranes website at www.terexcranes.com, Guidelines section.
