TEREX® TC 2800-1 REACHES OUT TO OLYMPIC CHALLENGE
London, May 20, 2011 – Ainscough Crane Hire Ltd recently used its Terex® TC 2800-1 truck mounted lattice boom crane to place 10 air conditioning and containerized tank and cylinder room units in the new Westfield Shopping Mall complex, at its future “Olympic” East London address.
Conveniently located for visitors to the coming 2012 Olympic Games, the new shopping mall stands at the heart of today’s busy construction site. With teams of different trade specialists working in close quarters, the crane’s proximity to the building was was limited due to jobsite safety considerations.
The furthest of 10 unit lifts was carried out in luffing fly jib configuration (SFSL) at an astonishing 128.5-meters radius with 10-tonne load, including hook block and lifting tackle. The remaining lifts were carried out on a luffing jib configuration with fixed main boom (SWSL).
Assembled within a three day period, the Terex® TC 2800-1 was configured with 72-meter main boom and 160-tonne counterweight, plus 72-meter luffing fly jib extension fixed at a 15° radius. Significantly increasing lifting capacity and reachable radius, the set-up also included a 30-meter superlift mast and 300-tonne superlift counterweight.
“The new Westfield Shopping Mall complex is a core component of the Olympic development project and access to the building is very restricted. Working to a tight schedule, we needed to move in, handle our far-reaching lifts efficiently and safely, dismantle and move out fast to leave room for other teams in just seven days,” says Mr. Steve Wathen, Commercial Director, Heavy Cranes Division, Ainscough Crane Hire Ltd. “In addition to its outstanding reach capacity and lifting performance, the truck mounted design, compact dimensions and straightforward assembly of the TC 2800-1 were also great benefits that worked very well for us on this highly challenging job.”
Driven directly onto the construction site via temporary roadways, the heavy Terex® TC 2800-1 had to meet the 6-tonne per meter ground pressure jobsite requirements. This was accomplished by deploying its 14 x 14-meter, X-type outriggers on Ainscough’s extra large 7.5 x 2.2-meter heavy-duty outrigger mats to reduce ground bearing pressure to 5.6 tonnes per square meter - a very low figure for a crane of this size.
About the Terex® TC 2800-1 truck mounted lattice boom crane
Well-adapted to petrochemical, infrastructure and wind turbine applications, the TC 2800-1 is a compact, roadable, truck mounted lattice boom crane providing a maximum lifting capacity of 600 tonnes at 6-meter radius in SH 24 configuration with its main boom. Offering a 138-meter maximum main boom length and a maximum combination of 96-meter main boom with 96-meter maximum luffing jib length installed for a maximum tip height of 192 meters, its outstanding capacities are further increased by a 14 x 14-meter, X-type outrigger system. A wide selection of “slide-in” modules are available to adapt configurations easily and rapidly to specific job requirements, without the need for extra transport vehicles. These include boom extension, luffing jib, superlift, wind turbine main boom kit, vessel lift and other
Designed for high return on investment at low total cost of ownership, the TC 2800-1 combines the added value of time-saving desing and long-lasting components with outstanding performance at reduced operation costs. For example, hydraulic pinning offers fast, straightforward boom assembly while the quick-connection system allows the installation or removal of the superstructure in under 15 minutes. In addition, convenient interchangeable counterweight slabs can be stored in separate places for use on other cranes to help reduce transportation costs. Operator training expenses can be reduced thanks to an intuitive, user-friendly IC-1 crane control system that can be easily programmed with load charts for specific truck mounted, crawler or narrow track chassis operations. The IC-1 control also provides the time-saving benefit of conveniently shifting from fixed jib (SWSL) to luffing fly jib (SFSL) operation mode without the need to exchange computer hardware. Roadable within 12-tonne axle load limitations, the TC 2800-1 can be driven without special authorization or escort vehicles in many countries.
