Terex PORT EQUIPMENT wins CONTRACT for sprinter carriers
TO SERVE IN BUSAN NEW Port, SOUTH KOREA
WUERZBURG, GERMANY, August 5, 2010 - Terex Port Equipment has announced the signature of a major contract with Hyundai Development Corporation for the supply of 20 Terex® Noell NSC422 Diesel-Hydraulic Sprinter Carriers 1 over 1, 9’ 6” (2 high) within the framework of the construction of the Busan New Port Phase 2-3 in the Republic of South Korea.
“We are extremely pleased to have been chosen by Hyundai Development Corporation to provide our world class Sprinter Carriers to this important new port,” said Guido Luini, Managing Director of Terex Cranes Würzburg, Germany. “I am confident that the high level of machine performance in conjunction with low levels of fuel consumption, maintenance needs and overall cost of ownership will make a key contribution to the success of this new terminal”.
The Sprinters will operate within a new, semi-automated terminal located at the Busan new port project, where automation between them and Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes will be supported by a DGPS system. The machines will be mounted with front left cabs and mobile equipment/CREON Can-Bus Control Systems and equipped with one of the most powerful and reliable diesel engines currently available for sprinters.
Busan is South Korea’s second largest city and the world’s sixth largest port in terms of traffic volume, handling 13.4 million Twenty-foot Equivalent (“TEU”) in 2008. The existing Busan Port has major traffic congestion problems. Consequently, another location has been chosen for the Busan New Port Project, near the city on the south-western shore of Busan City (Gaduk-Island) to improve connections to Seoul and other markets. The Busan New Port Project is one of South Korea’s national policy projects. The total estimated investment is of USD 10 Billion in 30 berths with total quay wall length of 10 km, 6.9 km2 container yard and 3.8 km2 logistics site.
Busan New Port Phase 2 - 3 will be home for one of the several terminal projects at Busan New Port and will be the first automated terminal in South Korea to be operated with Sprinter Carriers. The terminal area will cover an area of 840,000 m2 with four 50,000 tonne berths laying 1400m. Maximum annual capacity will represent 2.7 million TEU. The project company with the concession rights to develop, operate and maintain the Busan New Port Phase 2-3 project is Busan New Port Container Terminal company, Ltd. (“BNCT”).
BNCT is a Consortium comprising eight shareholders, among which Hyundai Development Company (“HDC”) is the lead company for engineering, procurement and construction as well as responsible for the acquisition of the 20 Sprinter Carriers to be supplied by Terex Port Equipment (represented by Noell Mobile Systems GmbH, Würzburg – Germany) .
This new fleet of Diesel-Hydraulic Sprinters will secure Terex® Noell leadership in sprinter carrier technology worldwide, adding to a reference list of over 830 Diesel-Hydraulic installations to date.
