First Terex® Noell hydro static straddle carrier
in Central America going to port in El Salvador
ZWEIBRÜCKEN, February 22, 2010 - The Port of Acajutla, El Salvador, will be the first container terminal in Central America using Terex® Noell Hydro Static Straddle Carriers model NSC 634 H to improve operational efficiency.
The port belongs to the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA) in El Salvador. Focusing on the use of new technology, CEPA is known as a technical leader in the region, with a high consciousness for terminal efficiency.
The CEPA operating team expects a 25-30% reduction in operating costs, due to reduced fuel consumption and wear on parts, compared to previous T-Type units. Furthermore, the new Terex® Noell Hydro Static Straddle Carrier will provide added flexibility for possible expansions of the terminal.
Central American terminals have a long history of using straddle carriers for high speed container handling. Traditionally, the market has been dominated by diesel-mechanical machines. Terex Corporation acquired Noell Mobile Systems GmbH in 2009, helping Terex Port Equipment to become a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of straddle carriers and sprinters.
