Terex signs contract for ten RTG Cranes with Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal

Xiamen, People’s Republic of China, February 1, 2009 – Terex Cranes has signed a contract for the delivery of ten Terex® Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes to Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal Co. Ltd. The contract was signed on December 10, 2009 at Xiamen Bailuzhou Hotel in Xiamen, China.

Attending the signature ceremony were Mr. Zhang Jun Sheng (张俊生, General Manager of Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal Co. Ltd), Mr. Thomas Ostermann (VP and Managing Director, Terex Cranes), Mr Jean-Marie Coutant, Integration Director, Terex Cranes China and Mr. Zhu Heng Yao (朱恒耀, Deputy General Manager, Terex Cranes Xiamen / Noell Crane Systems (China) Ltd.), among others.

The ten RTG cranes are scheduled for delivery in December 2010. Mr. Zhang Jun Sheng (张俊生), General Manager of Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal Co. Ltd, said: “Noell has been manufacturing world-class cranes for more than 100 years and therefore deserves our confidence. At various container terminals at Xiamen Port, there are already more than 60 Terex® (formerly Noell China) RTG cranes in operation. These are good-quality machines that get their jobs done reliably at a low total cost of ownership. We are confident that the new machines will get their jobs done equally efficient with the same good performance as usual.”

“I would like to thank Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal Co. Ltd. for their confidence in Terex Port Equipment,” says Mr. Ostermann. “This contract is a clear signal to me that our product offering fulfils the needs of our key customers and that our management efforts of the last months are being recognized. We already transferred a lot of expertise from Terex to the port equipment business. We will continue this process to further improve our products. I strongly believe that the port equipment experts that we are bringing together at Terex Cranes are a very powerful asset that will reach its full potential when combined with the Terex Management System.”

The RTG cranes are diesel powered, fully AC Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes, with a safety working load of 40.5t under single lift all-electrical spreader. They are 6+1 wide (23.47m span) and feature a 5+1 lifting height (18.1m). The drive system is based on the newest generation of Siemens converters (Sinamics+Simotion D) with DC bus architecture. Quick work cycles are made possible by a hoisting speed of 23 / 52 m/min (rated load /empty under spreader), trolley travel speed of 70 m/min and gantry travel speed of 30 / 90 m/min (rated load /empty under spreader).

Noell Crane Systems (China), now part of Terex Port Equipment, has delivered more than 600 RTG/RMG (rubber-tyred/ rail-mounted gantry) cranes to global terminals.
