TEREX PORT EQUIPMENT:

NEW SHIP-TO-SHORE CRANE DELIVERED TO NAPLES

ZWEIBRÜCKEN, March 30, 2010 - The first in a series of two new Terex® postpanamax Ship-to-Shore Cranes ordered by CONATECO (Consorzio Napoletano Terminal Containers) was delivered to their “Bausan” quay in Naples, Italy in January. CONATECO is the leading terminal operator on the Port of Naples and one of the largest in Italy.

Along with a previous delivery of two other Terex® Ship-to-Shore Cranes ordered by the Naples Port Authorities for the same terminal, this is a first step in the replacement of existing quay equipment by state-of-the-art cranes, specially designed to operate on new-generation postpanamax vessels serving transoceanic routes.

The crane was designed and constructed by Terex Port Equipment, part of Terex Cranes, at their Monfalcone plant (near Trieste, North Italy) and delivered, fully assembled, to Naples by barge. Positioning onto the final rails was carried out rapidly. This procedure is used on a standard basis by Terex to enable crane completion, commissioning and main functional testing to be carried out before shipping - a great advantage for the end user - and essential on the CONATECO terminal, where busy quayside traffic and a restricted working area meant that by keeping quay occupancy down to a minimum, container handling operations could proceed as usual.

“The arrival of this new generation of Ship-to-Shore Crane is something we are very proud of for two reasons,” said Mr. Pasquale Legora De Feo, CEO of CONATECO. “First, in-spite of the current challenging economic situation, the volumes we handle have increased by 2%. Second, we are delighted to see our partnership with a key player like Terex grow stronger on a daily basis.” Mr. Legora De Feo added: “With the arrival of a sister crane in April, and the construction of a new terminal on the Levante quay in Naples, where we intend to invest 150 million Euros in new equipment, this is just the beginning of the long and solid partnership that we wish to continue to develop with Terex”.

Technical characteristics

Outreach: 52 meters

Back reach: 18 meters

Span: 29 meters

Lifting capacity above quay: 38 meters

The crane typology uses a monobox boom and fixed trolley girder, with a semi-rope trolley and double auxiliary trolleys to limit hoisting-rope sag. The trolley is fed on a cable chain which requires lower maintenance than the traditional festoon system. The spreader is also made by Terex. Operating on electricity, energy is optimized by a fully regenerative system based on state-of-the-art technology using IGBT inverters.

An extended CMS developed by Terex Port Equipment, including radio data transmission to the remote station and fully integrated into the existing system, provides CONATECO with the remote-monitoring management of all crane maintenance and operations functions.
